Miscellaneous manuscripts, 1826-1858.

Typescript carbons of 33 letters from Jonathan Knight, dated 1826-1858 and dealing with the surveying of the National Road and the laying of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Most of the letters are to his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Nathan Whealdon of Freeport, Ohio (they later moved to Caldwell, Oh.); a few of the later letters are to their son Abel. One letter is to another sister and brother-in-law of Knight's, Dorothy and James Milleson, also of Freeport. Some of the letters are sent jointly from Knight and his wife Ann.
